MS & HS MINISTRY IMPORTANT EVENTS — MARK YOUR CALENDARS
(1) Parent & Student Workshop — June 22nd 7:30-9:15 PM
“The Power of Words” presented by Dave & Beth Pocta.
The lesson will help families talk about the atmosphere in their home and how they communicate with each other. They will be given the opportunity to discuss how both the student and the parent[s] see the home environment and how they would like to grow. They will all take part in learning through scriptures, discussion, an interactive game, and a hands-on activity to create a lasting memory of the event.
(2) Parent Only Workshop — June 23rd 9:30-11:30 AM
“Our Abundant God” presented by Beth Pocta to Moms.
God calls us as mom’s to delight in and love our children with the kind of love that HE has shown us. As we grow in our ability to love our children through their different stages and challenges, we must be continually growing in our personal connection with God and be motivated by his abundant love. Our kids struggles personally…is an ever growing spiritual maturity.
“Adolescence & Midlife – Two Unavoidable Developmental Realities” presented by Dave Pocta to Dads.
Adolescence and midlife each present unique challenges to spirituality. As fathers, we have to understand our
own development, to navigate our personal spirituality, while helping our children through their very tumultuous teen years. This class will look at the psychological and spiritual dimensions that combine for teen fathers that presents a uniquely difficult stage in life. When these complexities are understood, it can produce a dynamic connection for dads with their teens.
(3) Parent Training Classes — July 11th, 18th, and 25th 7:15-8:30 PM
“Facing the Challenges of Parenting a Teen” by Michele Smith, PhD.
Parenting teens can be challenging – after all, their goal at this time is to be different than their parents! These workshops will cover the developing brain of teenagers and how it affects their moods, socialization, and decision-making. We’ll also discuss discipline approaches that don’t work regardless of how hard we try to make them work, and then strategies that do work.
